Twitter – The New Business Card

The most common statement I hear about Twitter is “I don’t get it”. . . .

Twitter is your billboard and your business card. Your homepage should clearly describe your business and guide people to your other social media accounts where they can get to know you better. You can use twitbacks.com to create a custom Twitter background for free. Check out this video.

Looking for a job? Discover the power of Linkedin

If you are currently job seeking and not on Linkedin you are making a big mistake. Recruiters are almost exclusively using Linkedin to find prospects. Linkedin is the social networking platform for business. It’s members are there to create beneficial relationships and grow their networks.

    Linkedin statistics:

    • LinkedIn has over 47 million members in over 200 countries and territories around the world.
    • A new member joins LinkedIn approximately every second, and about half of our members are outside the U.S.
    • Executives from all Fortune 500 companies are LinkedIn members.
    • Average family income is 109 k
    • 95% college graduates
    • 64% male

Unlike Facebook, everything that is posted within Linkedin is indexed by Google. Your participation and profile will help you be found both on Linkedin and in Google search results.

“Users with complete profiles are 40 times more likely to receive opportunities through LinkedIn!”

    Tips for your profile:

    • Include a photo of you that you use consistently on all your social site profiles (this brands you).Determine which keywords describe your industry and use them often throughout your profile.
    • “Specialty” section of the summary. This is where you will showcase your keyword rich specialties.
    • Include the benefits you bring to your industry
    • Import your blog: Go to Linkedin applications to import your blog
    • Spend time listening to what is happening in your industry
    • Go to Linkedin groups directory and join groups elated to your industry. Participate in these groups.
    • Ask questions and answer questions in Linkedin Answers. Show off your expertise by answering questions related to your industry. Your answers should not be about you and what you have to offer (no sales pitch). Your answers should be providing real value.
    • Update your status often. Each time you update your status your “connections” are notified.
